OCD Treatment in Rajkot

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a cycle of unwanted intrusive thoughts and the actions taken to neutralise them. It is exhausting and it is treatable. OCD treatment in Rajkot here uses exposure and response prevention, the method with the strongest evidence behind it.

What is OCD?

OCD has two halves. Obsessions are intrusive thoughts, images or urges that arrive uninvited and cause real distress. Compulsions are the things you do, openly or in your head, to reduce that distress: checking, washing, counting, repeating, confessing, seeking reassurance, or mentally reviewing an event until it feels resolved.

The relief a compulsion brings is genuine and short-lived, and it teaches your brain that the ritual was necessary. That is why OCD tightens over time even though you are working harder and harder to control it.

OCD is not about being neat, organised or particular about detail. That everyday use of the word is misleading and it delays people from seeking help. Common themes include contamination, harm, symmetry, religious or moral scrupulosity, relationship doubt, and intrusive sexual thoughts. What defines OCD is the distress and the time consumed, not tidiness.

Signs you may benefit from support

Emotional signs

  • Persistent doubt that you did something correctly, despite evidence
  • Guilt or shame about the content of your thoughts
  • Fear of being responsible for harm coming to someone
  • A need for things to feel "just right" before you can stop
  • Dread when a ritual is interrupted or prevented

Physical signs

  • Skin damage from repeated washing or scrubbing
  • Physical tension, exhaustion after long ritual sequences
  • Sleep disrupted by checking or mental reviewing at night
  • Appetite affected by contamination fears around food

Behavioural signs

  • Checking locks, gas, switches or messages repeatedly
  • Washing or cleaning far beyond what the situation needs
  • Asking family the same reassurance question again and again
  • Avoiding places, numbers, words or people linked to the fear
  • Being routinely late because rituals take up an hour or more a day

How OCD is treated

Exposure and response prevention (ERP)

ERP is the core treatment. You build a hierarchy of triggers with your psychologist, ranked by how difficult they feel. You then approach a trigger deliberately and, crucially, do not perform the compulsion afterwards. You stay with the discomfort while it rises and then, reliably, falls on its own. Repeated across sessions and between them, this teaches your brain something argument cannot: the anxiety passes without the ritual, and the feared outcome does not depend on it. Family members are often coached too, since well-meant reassurance can quietly maintain the cycle.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for OCD

CBT addresses the beliefs that give obsessions their power: inflated responsibility, over-importance of thoughts, intolerance of uncertainty, and the belief that thinking something makes it more likely. You learn that intrusive thoughts are near-universal, and that OCD is a problem of interpretation rather than of content. For scrupulosity and harm themes in particular, this cognitive work makes ERP possible. Read more about the methods used on the approach page.

What your first session looks like

The first session maps your specific cycle: the triggers, the obsessions, every compulsion including the mental ones, and how much time each day they take. Standardised measures may be used to establish severity so change can be tracked. You will not be asked to resist a compulsion during that session.

You can describe your obsessions in plain terms without fear of being judged or misunderstood. Clinicians who treat OCD hear these themes regularly and recognise them for what they are.

Who this is for

This is for adults and adolescents living with OCD, whether recently recognised or present since childhood, and for families who want to understand how to respond without feeding the cycle. It also suits people with related difficulties such as compulsive checking or health-related reassurance seeking.

If checking and worry are more general than ritualised, the anxiety treatment page may fit better. Where the diagnosis itself is unclear, a formal psychological assessment can be arranged first. Ms. Mansi Tanna does not prescribe medication; where a psychiatrist is involved, therapy continues alongside that care.
